Today was my day for my neurological exam that I need in order to fly for the Marines. I was diagnosed with ADD in high school, put on meds, given extended time, and then had to give all that up in order to get into the Academy. No big deal. Grades didn't drop, school didn't get harder, life was just fine. I got into the academy, and have not blamed ADD for any thing here. Sure I probably could have done better here, but I've enjoyed my time and am getting what I want out of this. I'll probably end up serving 12-20 years. I'm sorry to who ever my wife will be; its going to be a long ride.
I felt my testing went much better in terms of proving I don't have any problems anymore. I finished all of the tests (instead of getting cut off early for doing bad). I had problems with little history bits, but who knows what that means. I never really stored that stuff too well anyway. I did get the speed of light right though...3x10^8 m/s and Einsteins Theory of Relativity.
Got on the weights today. I probably wouldn't have done it, even though I told myself I was going to, however, Ben comes bursting in my room huffing and puffing from his treck up from 4-0 to 4-4 telling me we should go do arms. Hes a very localized lifter. He does not know how to do very dynamic lifts, but he can put a lot of weight up in single directions. He was doing tricep pull downs at 160#s and I pointed out to him that he can lift more with his triceps than he can with his legs. He told me he can bench more than he squats....in his own words..."LAMEEEE." If you want to learn out to lift, start with the legs and work your way up. Learn dynamic lifts, be athletic, not just strong.
We ended up doing a couple of CrossFit WOD's (workout of the day) from the last few days. We did the Front Squat 3-3-3-3-3 and the Push Jerk 1-1-1-1-1-1-1. I tried instructing him on his front squats, but he is not as receptive as he led on to me before the workout, he just wants to put up weight. I corrected his form a few times and then gave up. Hes going to hurt himself. The best was watching him do the push jerk. First, it was no surprise to me that I blew him out of the water with a 235x3 front squats while he was hitting maybe 165x3 by his final reps. I let him do most of his front squats before I started and then I quickly surpassed his weights. I've never really done a lot push jerks, I've done split jerks, but never maxed, its always been for reps of 6, 3 each leg. Putting heavy weight above my head is not my forte, but I have a good grasp on how to get it above my head. I was behind Ben on starting these and he was struggling with form to do 145. That was his last set; he had gotten up to 155 but nearly died. He has the flexibility of an olympic bar and cant get into a front squat position to catch the weight after a clean. Nor could he extend on the push jerk. It was rough to watch. I leveld out at 165, because thats about as much as I can get above my head right now with out hurting myself. It was refreshing to watch the kid with the big muscles get beat on form, weight, and endurance by the smaller kid who does not lift nearly as much as he does....BOOOYA...sorry, got a little carried away.
Anyway, here's todays workout...I did get suckered into doing some arms...:
Front Squat: 3-3-3-3-3
145-155-200-225-235 (PR)
Push Jerk: 1-1-1-1-1-1-1
135-145-155-165-165-165-165
Two Handed Hammer Curls: 3x12x55lbs
Behind the Back Wrist Curls: 3x12x55lbs
Wrist Extension: 3x12x55lbs
Dips: 2x8xBW
Suspended Leg Lifts: 2x20
Suspended Sit Up: 1x20
Not a bad lift. My legs feel like jello. Its great not to have to "worry" about what I'm lifting. I can lift anything and everything. Hell, I might even bench press--Sorry Damo, I might do a little beach body workout every once in a while...HAHA yeah right, I'll only do it if its called for by
CrossFit.
On Yesterday: My legs were hurting today from yesterdays interval run...actually, I'm very surprised by that.
Its way too late. I think I'm going to give up going to bed past midnight on school nights for lent. Looks like I already messed that one up.
